Attorney Eric J. Haag honored with WAJ President's Award

Haag honored with WAJ Presidents’ Award

The Wisconsin Association for Justice recognized the contributions of Eric Haag to the legal profession as part of its 2018 Presidents’ Dinner and Reception, held on Dec. 7. Haag, a partner at Atterbury, Kammer & Haag, S.C., was honored with the 2018 Presidents’ Award, presented by WAJ president Heath Straka. Haag led the list of honorees at the annual gala celebrating outstanding legal accomplishments by Wisconsin attorneys.

Haag handles a range of matters, including personal injury, civil rights, medical malpractice, fire loss and class action claims. As a longtime WAJ member, he has served on the association’s Board of Directors and co-chaired its Program Committee. He grew up in Wisconsin and obtained his law degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1996, going into practice in the state.

He was honored with the WAJ Presidents’ Award in recognition for his work on the Briggs case, in which he secured the largest civil rights settlement ever to be paid by the state of Wisconsin. The $18.9 million settlement was obtained on behalf of a girl who suffered a catastrophic brain injury at Copper Lake School for Girls, a juvenile justice facility. The case not only helped to secure much-needed improvement in the girl’s quality of life but also put in place significant changes in the Wisconsin juvenile justice system.

Other honorees recognized at the Gala included lawyers Ann Jacobs and Eric Knobloch as well as paralegal Corinne Dulak. The event also marked a transition for incoming WAJ president Edward E. Robinson, who took on the title from Straka at the celebration.

When people in Wisconsin suffer injuries as a result of someone else’s negligence, they may turn to personal injury lawyers with significant experience in obtaining large settlements. An attorney may help people to protect their rights and pursue the compensation that they deserve.
